How it works
- 01
Drop in a song
MP3 or WAV works best. Up to 250 MB and 10 minutes, and the file never leaves your device.
- 02
We listen to the whole thing
Up to 90 seconds, sampled from across the track, gets checked for which notes show up most and where the beat lands.
- 03
Check it by ear
Play the song with a soft chord in the detected key on top. If it sits right, you're good. Then copy the key and BPM into your session.
Worth knowing
These are estimates. Your ears get the final say.
Relative keys (like A minor and C major) share every note, so they're easy to mix up. Songs that change key, lean on one chord, or are mostly drums are harder to read. Tempo can come back at half or double what you feel; use the ½× and 2× buttons. Loose timing, live tempo drift and swing can throw the BPM off by a little.
Built in-house, no third-party code. Key matching uses published key profiles from Krumhansl & Kessler (1982) and Temperley (2007).
